I CHOOSE TO SERVE 11: QUALITIES OF GOD’S SERVANT 5

“For by the grace given to me I ask every one of you not to think of yourself more highly than you should think, rather to think of yourself with sober judgement on the measure of faith that God has assigned each of you” Rom. 12:3 (ISV).

Foundation Text: 1 Tim. 3:1-7

GOOD SENSE OF JUDGEMENT (SOBERNESS):

The truth is that being sober can mean different things for different applications. The part of being sober I want to treat in this episode is the part of being in the right frame of mind. The ability to think properly and rightly. The place of making sound and right judgement or conclusions over a matter. The ability of not being carried away by emotional fantasies in the discharge of your duty.

Soberness is very important in our service to God. Why was Paul charging the Roman church, and by extension us, to be sober? This is what I think: it is difficult not to be judgemental or conclusive about issues. Nobody wants to leave a matter open ended. There is always need to draw conclusion on a matter.

It is true that we have been admonished by Jesus not to be judgemental, but being judgemental may not necessarily take you to hell. This is no fallacy, it is a scriptural reality. Take a look at that scripture once again:

“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged” Matt. 7:1-2 (NLT).

He did not say judge not that you will not go to hell, neither did He say judge not that you may inherit the kingdom. We are being admonished not to make the wrong conclusions about other people. If we do, we will receive the same kind of treatment.
Now, because the human tendencies of being judgemental is there, servants of God are admonished to imbibe the quality of soberness. This will enable you to make the right choices, decisions and conclusions.

The conclusion we give on matters has a lot to do with how we perceive things. My mentor will always say and I quote; “We perceive things not the way things really are, but the way we are”. The conclusion we draw on matters may not be the accurate thing, but we conclude on things the way we feel it ought to be concluded. This is why the servant of God has to be sober at all times. You need to always be in the right frame of mind to enable you make sound and accurate judgement. Do not always get carried away by emotions, strive to get all the necessary information you need before you draw your conclusions.

PRECIOUS SEEDS 005 By Godwin ‘Captain’ Kalu

Keep speaking until you become a voice. Keep walking until you discover the best path.

Keep soaring until you are mistaken for an eagle. Company with great minds until you are perceived to be great man.

The worst thing that can happen to a man on a journey is to stop in the middle of the road, on the rough road where anything goes.

Until you value the picture of your future, you will agree to dump it in the bin for crumbs.

Walking in your purpose may not be the most comfortable decisions you will ever take in life, but there is life on that line of decision. It pays better if you can persist through.

Most times, it is not what you have done that will make the difference but what you are doing and are willing to continue doing that tightens your audacity to aim at the future.

Don’t compare your future with your past. Success is in phases. The past accommodated the first step. The first step cannot be the only step in the school of success. Flex your muscles on fresh pedestals. If you have done the first, pursue the next.

Rise up!  Start from anywhere. Everyday is a new day for a new step.

I believe in you!

THE PAMPERED LAMB By Aleele Paago

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. Ps 23:2a

Everything is provided for. That is why he boldly declares that he lacks or wants nothing. The newborn Christian comes to this realization that God has all it takes to handle all his challenges. He realizes that there is a provision for every vision.

Yet, this pampered lamb cannot differentiate between the poisonous herbs and the nutritious greens. It does not see the slithering snakes or dangerous caterpillars. It is not that they are absent, it is simply that the shepherd has taken care of these without the knowledge of the lamb. You have no idea how far God will go to give you rest at every phase of your life.  Every now and then  you must come back to this stage of your faith where you allow God to pamper you. Don’t feel guilty about it.  He is the Shepherd and you own Him.

However If your Christian experience has only been amongst the green pastures, then you are still a baby. If your Christian experience has only been about lying down, then you certainly have not met 10% of your life’s potential.

Notice that it is the Shepherd that makes the lamb lie down. The Shepherd pampers this lamb not to spoil it, but because it requires that period to learn from other lambs. Or just to rest from the intense battle or labor.

The sheep you learn from will determine the path you take in life. Who is your mentor? The quality of your rest will determine the output in your next endeavor.
