A DATE WITH THE KING

“One of the young men said, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who plays skillfully, a valiant man, a man of war, prudent in speech and eloquent, an attractive person; and the Lord is with him” 1 Sam. 16:18 (AMP).

Let me start today by saying that what happens to you in life, most times, is a product of the choices that you make. It sparingly has anything to do with your situation, background and environment. The pockets of choices and droplets of decisions you make on a daily basis are pivotal in charting the course for your life and destiny.

It is one thing to be endowed with potentials that have the ability to improve your standard of living, it is another to be aware of them, and yet another to work on them. Interestingly, as promising as your gifts and talents are, nobody will invest in them when they are crude. They will only appeal to investors when they have been refined. This is the difference between the guy with a very sweet voice in the neighborhood and the one on the screens.

David was a man of many known giftings. The verses preceding our anchor text shows us that David was a great player of the harp. He could only be as good as he was described to be because he had fine-tuned his gift. Before he was recommended to the King for a sensitive assignment, the recommender must have heard David play over and over again. For the young man to boldly make that recommendation, knowing what is at stake, he had ascertained the dexterity with which David played. David was this good because he had worked on his playing, and it consequently earned him a date with the King.

We complain, most often than not, that Christians are not recommending other Christians for jobs and high positions. My question is; “How many of these ‘Christians’ are consistently getting better at what they do?”. In as much as I am an advocate for Christians to help one another, we should also know that recommendation puts one’s integrity on the line.

The status is changing, we are getting better. Keep working on your stuff. Keep improving. Do not let opportunity meet you unprepared.

MANIFEST!

Happy New Year..

Yours truly,
Ibeh Uche Sam
